QHG partners with health care system clients to determine the best short, medium, and long term strategies for improving care for LGBTQIA+ patients and family members.
Beginning the process with a robust environmental scan, QHG outlines a system's strengths and weaknesses, and develops a fiscally responsible plan to build upon the former and address the latter.
QHG is committed to the "Nothing About Us Without Us" principle. Therefore, QHG believes that any successful Quality Improvement initiative must involve community engagement.
QHG provides assistance with community engagement, connecting with community members through social media, direct outreach, and event hosting. QHG assists with Community Advisory Board (CAB) creation, if necessary, and builds positive community-health system relationships.
QHG reviews patient concerns and identifies areas of improvement. QHG then meets with relevant providers and departments and creates a custom plan to address the complaint. QHG monitors the plan, making adjustments as necessary.
QHG ensures that concerned patients receive follow-up, building confidence in the health care system.
QHG recognizes that most LGBTQIA+ health care complaints are due, at least in part, to lacking medical education on this new and rapidly developing topic. Therefore, QHG considers staff development and training to be critical components of any quality improvement plan.
Drawing from experience developing curricula for the CDC and New York State Department of Health, QHG creates engaging presentations and curricula to educate providers and allied health professionals on relevant content areas.
QHG provides technical assistance, including: reviewing and revising forms, electronic health record templates, and other written materials to ensure that they are inclusive of LGBTQIA+ patients; building an interactive website to showcase positive developments; creating a social media presence on multiple platforms for continuous community engagement; developing or editing LGBTIQA+ affirming policies and procedures.
